Settlement of Grievance – Monetary Distribution

September 2025 update

Under the terms of the settlement described above, eligible players will receive a second, smaller settlement payment from the Club by the end of the year. 

Players under contract with the Reds do not need to do anything further at this time. If you are no longer employed by the Reds, you do not need to take any action to receive the payment unless (1) your banking information has changed since you were last employed by the Reds in 2025 or (2) your banking information has changed since you last filled out the forms to receive your first settlement payment in the Spring of this year. Players who never filled out forms previously and were not employed by the Reds in 2025 must fill out all forms below and submit to minorleague@mlbpa.org by October 10, 2025.

• If your banking information has changed:

  • Fill out a new direct deposit form in Step 3 below;

  • Take a screenshot showing your account and routing numbers, or take a picture of a voided check; and

  • Email the form and screenshot/voided check to minorleague@mlbpa.org by October 10, 2025.

Players who decline to update their banking information or forms by the deadline risk forfeiting the second settlement payment.

Background

Under the CBA, Clubs agreed to pay Minor League Players a maximum of $2,500 (minus MLB Spring allowances) as compensation for the 2022-23 Off-Season and Spring Training periods. After hearing concerns from Players about improper deductions being made by the Reds and Padres, the MLBPA investigated and concluded that improper deductions affecting hundreds of Players had been made by both Clubs. As a result, the MLBPA filed a grievance challenging the Clubs’ conduct.

Settlement

The grievance filed by the MLBPA has now been settled. Under the settlement, 70% of the total amount at issue will be paid to players, for a total of $220,761.01. The average pre-tax distribution to affected Reds Players will be $961.15 and the average pre-tax distribution to affected Padres Players will be $1,129.77. If you are receiving this letter, the MLBPA has determined that you are owed monies as part of this settlement.

Los jugadores bajo contrato con los Rojos no necesitan hacer nada más en este momento. Si usted ya no es empleado de los Rojos, no necesita tomar ninguna medida para recibir el pago a menos que (1) su información bancaria haya cambiado desde la última vez que fue empleado de los Rojos en 2025; o (2) su información bancaria cambió desde la última vez que llenó los formularios para recibir su primer pago de liquidación en la primavera de este año. Antecedentes

Según el Acuerdo Básico, los clubes acordaron pagar a los jugadores de Ligas Menores un máximo de $2,500 (menos los estipendios de primavera de Grandes Ligas) como compensación por los períodos de temporada baja y Entrenamiento de Primavera 2022-23. Tras escuchar las preguntas de los jugadores sobre deducciones indebidas hechas por los Rojos y los Padres, la MLBPA investigó y concluyó que ambos clubes habían hecho deducciones indebidas que afectaban a cientos de jugadores. Como resultado, la MLBPA presentó una queja impugnando la conducta de los clubes.

Acuerdo

La queja presentada por la MLBPA ya ha sido resuelta. Según el acuerdo, se pagará a los jugadores 70% del monto total en cuestión, para un total de $220,761.01. La distribución promedio antes de impuestos a los jugadores afectados de los Rojos será de $961.15 y la distribución promedio antes de impuestos a los jugadores de los Padres afectados será de $1,129.77. Si está recibiendo esta carta, la MLBPA ha determinado que a usted se le debe dinero como parte de este acuerdo.
