Burglaries Targeting Professional Athletes

With the current rash of burglaries targeting professional athletes, we wanted to highlight a key resource that Players have in Carlos Barron - the PA Director of Security.

Carlos spent over two decades with the FBI, and has law enforcement contacts throughout the United States and around the world. Carlos is available to all Players and your families in the event you have questions, concerns, or simply want to discuss security further. He can be reached at 281-961-2543 or cbarron@mlbpa.org.

Below are some basic tips to keep your family, your identity, and valuables safe.

  1. Ensure you have a home alarm system - hardwired (not just Wi-Fi) with a backup power source/generator. (Thieves often attempt to cut power to the homes they target)

  2. Ensure all cameras are working properly and have advanced clear quality and night vision capabilities.

  3. Keep your name/homeownership out of public property records. Use an LLC when purchasing a residence or transferring the ownership name to an LLC if possible.

  4. Secure your valuables inside your home in a safe or secure location out of sight. Keep records of your valuables.

  5. Avoid oversharing on social media. Don’t post pictures of your valuables or detailed shots inside your homes. Do not post in real time while away from the house.

  6. Be alert for any suspicious vehicles or behavior in your neighborhood. Engage with Police to report any suspicious activity (eg. Strangers wandering around the neighborhood or repeatedly driving through.)

  7. If witnessing suspicious activity via your security cameras, call 911 immediately and tell them it is “a robbery in progress.”
